5 REASONS TO BE A LEAGUE
BOWLER
1.  To put it simply, bowling is fun and people enjoy having a good time.  But bowling can be much
more. Bowling can answer some of those competitive urges that many of us have.  You can bowl
for fun and that’s fine.  You can even bowl alone, especially if you are practicing or working on
your game.  But, bowling is best and the most fun as a social activity when you get together with
other people.  Leagues provide that and more in both fun and competitive formats.  Leagues are a
great way to meet people and make new friends.  And, since leagues bowl every week, you will
automatically get better at the game.  The better you bowl, the more fun you will have.  You will
also improve by bowling league because you will be bowling with some pretty good bowlers.  You
will get better by simply watching them bowl -  I guarantee it.  But, contrary to popular opinion, you
do NOT have to be a “good” bowler to bowl in any league.  And league bowlers are not scary -
they are just people like you and me - they bowl league to have fun.

2.  League bowlers get significantly reduced rates for open bowling, food, beverages and new
equipment in the pro shop.  Proper practice makes perfect, so if you want to get better, work on
your game outside of league.  Then you’ll do even better when it “counts” in league competition
and believe me, it‘s more fun to bowl well.

You might even win a beautiful high score award from the US Bowling Congress, the governing
body of the game.  Believe me, these are really special awards.  Everybody will want these!  And,
once you get one, you’ll want another!

3.  League bowlers get reserved times to bowl every week during the season.  League bowlers do
not have to worry that their lanes are available - they always get preference.  The lanes are
automatically reserved for you and are always available and ready for your league session.

4.  League bowlers get prime lane conditions that are consistent from week to week throughout the
season.  Orchard Lanes has a state of the art lane machine that can do just about anything.  We
can make the lane conditions as tough or easy as possible.  There are no guarantees on lane
conditions during open bowling.

5.  League bowlers get an official average that qualifies them to enter tournaments.  If you bowl
well, you can even win some money in tournaments!  How about that?  We run several local
tournaments for our own league bowlers.  Give them a try.  There are also numerous other
tournaments in Oregon, the NW and throughout the US.  Tournaments are a lot of fun and a great
bowling experience.  They are like a step up from leagues.  I always look forward to the challenge
of tournament competition because lane conditions are usually different and often more difficult
from those that you are used to.
So, in order to succeed in tournaments, you have to become versatile enough to adjust to the lane
conditions and you also have to beat the very best bowlers around because they always compete
in tournaments.  You will quickly find out just how good a bowler you are.  Also, I always look
forward to getting away for a few days to bowl some tournaments, so I consider these trips to be
mini vacations.  It’s a great way to see the country.  Let the good times roll and have a bowling ball.
