Brandon Kawachi rolls 300!
TEAM OF THE WEEK:
Brandon Kawachi 766
Jason DeGeus 713
Nancy Asai 708
Jeff Miller 707
Bryan Mason 707
Total 3,601 pins
The ultimate hooking machine, Brandon Kawachi sure had that Indy race car game of his clicking on all 12 cylinders in the Tuesday Nite Mixed
league at Hood River’s Orchard Lanes where he notched another 12 strike in a row perfect 300 game. We’ve lost count as to how many he has
logged in his career but it has to be well over ten now, a stunning number for a youngster like Brandon! When Brandon gets on it, the sky is the
limit and he was definitely “in the zone” all night as he finished up with a strike filled 766 series, a great night on the boards. Brandon is a
classic “plant and crank” bowler. He utilizes almost no slide in the last step of his approach, thereby setting himself in a solid position that
allows him to rev the ball to the max with speed from the inside. From that set spot he projects the ball way out to the right on the lane and with
all that “stuff” on the ball, it charges back into the 1-3 pocket, absolutely shredding the sticks. Brandon probably gets more “messenger” strikes
than anyone. It’s amazing but quite intimidating to watch him destroy the pins with that big curve ball he rolls.
Young power ball artist, Jason DeGeus lit things up like he so often does, with a nice 713 series in the Wednesday Fraternal. Jason’s game is
pure speed and power. Instead of round housing the ball, he attacks the pins more directly, literally firing a sharp breaking hook that changes
direction toward the end of the lane nearer to the pins. His shot shape is more like a Mariano Rivera cutter rather than a big sweeping curve. It’s
absolutely devastating to the pins.
If it weren’t for the stellar performance by young Mr. Kawachi, this week’s limelight would be giving Nancy Asai a deep Hawaii tan. Let’s give her
one anyway as she had a heck of a week. Her bowling resume is already loaded with spectacular highlights, nevertheless, we were still very
impressed with her fine 683 series in the Tuesday morning Workshirkers. Nancy capped that big set off with a super 255 game. But, she was
just getting warmed up. Later that same day in the Tuesday Nite mixed she kept on pounding the pocket and finished that session with a nifty
708 series including a 257 game. Then, just a day later, she shot a 634 series in the Wednesday night Fraternal. So, for her nine games in
league last week, she averaged a whopping 225 pins per game! Try beating that guys.
Finishing up our current team of the week is all-star Jeff Miller and Bryan Mason who both racked up 707 sets. For Jeff, that’s about average,
that’s how good he is at this game. And for Bryan, he actually shot his 707 last week and was inadvertently omitted from his rightful place on
that team of the week. Hope this makes up for it Bryan, please deliver my mail now. Gail Larsen won’t mind if you take his place this week as he
took your place last week. As you two know, we have always maintained that no mistreaks are made in this column!
Finally, we must salute Sandy Holmes for another great outing in the Tuesday Nite Mixed where she posted a 600 series right on the nose and
a big 236 game. Sandy is our newest all-star in town. Kudos are also due for John Strange who mustered his season’s best, a 627 series and
246 game in the Wednesday Colts and Fillies. That’s the way to blast out of a slump!
